Privacy Policy

gxlabs LLC built the Bean: coffee reviews app (“Bean”) as a free app. This SERVICE is provided by gxlabs LLC and is intended for use as is.

This page explains what information Bean collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. If you use Bean, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described here.

Information we collect

When you sign in with Apple, we receive:

• A unique account identifier from Apple.
• Your name, if you choose to share it.
• Your email address, if you choose to share it. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we receive a private relay address instead.

When you use Bean, we store the content you create:

• Your profile: display name, bio, and profile photo.
• Reviews: the bean, rating, brew method, tasting notes, comments, photo, who can see it, and (if you add one) the name, address, and map location of where you bought the coffee.
• Beans, roasters, and tastes you add.
• Likes, comments, who you follow, and reports you submit.

Photos you upload are resized and re-encoded on our server, which removes embedded metadata such as the photo’s GPS location.

How we use your information

Your information is used only to run Bean: to sign you in, show your reviews and profile to the people you choose, show you reviews from others, and calculate ratings for beans and roasters. Average ratings only include reviews shared with everyone.

We do not sell your information, show ads, or use your information for tracking. Bean contains no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs.

Who can see your content

Your name, profile photo, bio, and statistics (such as number of reviews and followers) are visible to other Bean users. Each review is visible to everyone, only to people who follow you, or only to you, depending on the setting you choose for that review. Comments and likes are visible to anyone who can see the review.

Where your information is stored

Bean’s data is stored on servers operated by gxlabs LLC in the United States, and is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Your sign-in session is kept in your device’s Keychain.

Third parties

Sign in with Apple is provided by Apple and is subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy. The app uses Apple Maps to search for and display purchase locations. We do not share your information with any other third party, except where required by law.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, reviews, comments, likes, and follows. Beans and roasters you added stay in the shared catalogue, without any link to you. Deleted data may remain in server backups for up to seven months before those backups are overwritten. You can also email us to request deletion.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections, hashed session tokens, and rate limiting. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s Privacy

Bean is not directed at anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page, so please review it periodically.
